President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the special telethon, "Maldives with Palestine." Organized by the Public Service Media (PSM) under the president's directives, the telethon aims to provide assistance to Palestinians. The event was initiated with donations from President Dr. Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. They were joined by several government dignitaries, including ministers and senior officials. In his speech at the event, President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the importance of supporting Palestinians, urging everyone to view it as both a personal and religious duty to aid the people of Palestine. He reiterated that the Maldives will continue to stand with Palestine, pledging ongoing support and assistance. To ensure transparency, an independent auditor has been appointed to oversee the distribution of funds raised through the telethon. A total of 13 charity boxes will be placed throughout Male' City. All fund boxes will remain open until sunset, except for the one at the TVM building, which will close on June 12 at 2200 hrs. For those unable to visit the fund boxes, online donation options are available. Two accounts have been designated specifically for online donations. Contributions in Maldivian currency can be made to account number 7730000655865, while donations in US dollars can be sent to account number 7730000655866. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) fund was established following a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly in 1948. The Maldives has been donating USD 5,000 annually to the fund. However, following President Dr. Muizzu's decision to increase the donation amount tenfold, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer announced that the Maldives will now be donating USD 50,000 annually.
